School Started This Week

Back to School in Manatee County
Monday was the first day of school around Manatee County. Please be aware of students in the morning and evenings heading to and from schools, congregating around bus stops, and crossing streets. The Manatee County Sheriffs ask everyone to pay attention to posted speed limits as they will be out enforcing the school zone limits. Remember, speeding fines for school zones increase in amount. Here is a breakdown of the fines when the speed limit is exceeded:
1-5 MPH over the limit, the fine goes from a warning to $156 in a school zone
6-9 MPH over the limit from $131 to $156
10-14 MPH over the limit from $206 to $306
15-19 MPH over the limit from $256 to $381
20-29 MPH over the limit from $281 to $431
Going over 30 MPH over the limit in any zone is a mandatory court appearance before a county judge.
